A Pie in the Face for a Purpose: Legend Senior Living’s CEO, COO, and CFO Get Pied to Support the Alzheimer’s Association

WICHITA, Kan., Oct. 14, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Legend Senior Living’s CEO, COO, and CFO took pies in the face to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. They were among six leaders who took part in the fundraiser at the company’s Wichita Home Office cookout. Associates donated for the chance to pie a leader, adding a charitable twist to a sunny October afternoon. In all, 12 pies were thrown in support of Legend’s national sponsorship of Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

“I’m still trying to get the whipped cream out of my ear,” said Chris Mahen, Chief Operating Officer of Legend Senior Living. “I took more than one pie, so I’d say the team got its money’s worth. Knowing that the money raised helps support people living with Alzheimer’s and the families we serve every day makes it all worthwhile.”

The Wichita fundraiser is one example of how Legend Senior Living is supporting the Alzheimer’s Association during Walk to End Alzheimer’s season. Legend is a national sponsor of the Walk, with communities participating in 22 local Walks across Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Texas. Together, Legend teams have committed to raising at least $50,000 to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s work in Alzheimer’s care, support, research, and education.

Across the organization, fundraising takes many forms. Legend communities have organized T-shirt sales, art benefits, carnivals, and other events that bring residents, associates, families, and neighbors together. These efforts raise awareness while giving people opportunities to support a cause that has a personal connection for many.

Through its Memory Care communities, Legend associates see firsthand the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia on individuals and families. Supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is one way Legend extends that commitment beyond its own residences, helping advance awareness, resources, and research for people affected by the disease.

“I can honestly say that getting a pie in the face is the most memorable way I’ve supported the Alzheimer’s Association,” said Matt Buchanan, Co-CEO and President of Legend Senior Living. “Across our organization, the enthusiasm our communities bring to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is inspiring every year. Residents, associates, families, and members of the local community find creative ways to come together, raise funds, and show their support. We’re proud to stand alongside the Alzheimer’s Association and support its work in care, education, and research.”

While the pies may have been flying in Wichita, the purpose behind the fun reaches far beyond one afternoon. Through its national sponsorship and local fundraising efforts, Legend Senior Living is helping support Alzheimer’s care, education, and research, while standing alongside individuals and families navigating the effects of dementia.
